Tonight: The Physics of Meaning / Butterflies.

Do I have any Triangle* readers? The Physics of Meaning are playing at Duke Coffeehouse, along with Butterflies. This will be good music.

(As far as I'm concerned, the goodness of music in North Carolina is sufficient proof that there lives the dearest freshness deep down things. On the other hand, the difficulty that TPoM has had in getting someone to release their album proves that we labor under the dominion of principalities and powers.)

Here's a Physics of Meaning video:

*If you're not “in the know,” I should explain that the vertices of said triangle are Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill.

You know what's cool about living in the Triangle? You can go to Local 506 to see Centro-matic and The Baptist Generals and wind up standing next to John Darnielle of The Mountain Goats during the show. Just hanging out in the crowd. I was too shy to say hello.

Speaking of signs that we mourn and weep in a vale of tears, how is it that the best damn band of the last decade (Centro-matic) can muster a crowd of only ... what? ... 30 people in Chapel Hill on a Thursday night?

I love that John is so supportive of the scene… it's cool to see the Merge folks around town, too.

I'll have to give Centro-matic a listen; if I agree with you maybe we can kick it up to 31 next time.

Mark your calendar for Wed. Dec 3: Perry from Prayers and Tears is opening for O'Death and MEGAFAUN at the Local 506.

I'll likely be there on December 2 to see Hayes Carll. (Eat your heart out, Cigarette Smoking Blogger.)

If you have $4.95 to spend on iTunes, I'd recommend these a la carte items from Centro-matic:

1. Mighty Midshipmen - Love You Just the Same
2. Flashes and Cables - Love You Just the Same
3. Most Everyone Will Find - All the Falsest Hearts Can Try
4. Huge in Every City - All the Falsest Hearts Can Try
5. Rock and Roll Eyes - Redo the Stacks
