Continuing my quest to become a Bach aficionado worthy of the name, I spent forty-five minutes or so comparing two recordings of the third Cello Suite in the library. It sounded to me as if Yo-Yo Ma played the pieces section by section, whereas Mstislav Rostropovich expressed and explored his way through each individual note.
