Heroes.
Of the people I would like to take as heroes at this time in my life, it’s a bit disturbing how many have committed suicide. I’m trying to figure out what the significance of this is.
I’m reading and enjoying W.J. Cash’s The Mind of the South right now. Cash was a journalist in Charlotte who turned to big issues of Southern identity. He killed himself just after the book was published.
I guess the other one might be Tom Disch, but I don’t know very much about his life. He just wrote really good books.
